Attaboy – in the former home of fabled speakeasy Milk & Honey – is known as one of the world’s best bars and a must for cocktail aficionados.
But it comes with a few warnings.
You need to make a reservation or put your name on a waiting list.
There is no menu - with a bartender making you a $22 drink based on your preferences.
Oh, there is no vodka.
And with fame and laurels comes a slight twinge of unhipness.
With all that said, it’s still worth a visit.
Upon passing a metal door, you’ll find yourself in a tight railcar-styled space with a bar up front, a few booths in back and a yellowish light throughout.
The atmosphere is upbeat - and filled with lots of history. This is, after all, where the Gold Rush and the Penicillin cocktails were invented back when this spot was Milk & Honey.
As for Attaboy’s drinks, they’re good.
Overall, we compare this place to a visit with your grandpa.
You like grandpa, you respect grandpa, you have to see grandpa, but you’re not required to spend all evening with him.
You may feel otherwise, but that to us is Attaboy.
