When I'm in New Orleans, I always try to go to Bacchanal.
It's the best backyard party where you don’t know anyone – but you leave with new friends every time.
Bacchanal is in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans, near the 9th Ward. For New Yorkers it's sort of like the Bushwick of New Orleans, with lots of hipsters and cool restaurants.
Bacchanal was born out of Hurricane Katrina as a place to gather and reconnect as chefs cooked from pop-up tents in the backyard. Now it's a spot where you can buy a bottle of wine, select some cheeses, sit down to listen to live jazz and meet new friends at communal picnic tables.
There are many ways to spend a lazy afternoon in New Orleans. Bacchanal is the best.
