Candy Kitchen, an iconic diner in Bridgehampton, opened in 1925 - and throughout the decades a who’s-who has entered its doors.
Howard Hughes sat at the counter.
Big names - like Colin Powell and “60 Minutes” founder Don Hewitt - have taken the “Power Booth,” the first booth closest to the door.
Truman Capote, Bette Davis, Roy Scheider, Alec Baldwin, Jerry Seinfeld, Selena Gomez and Justin Beiber have all paid a visit.
And in TV fiction land it's where Logan Roy promised his 7-year-old son Kendall the keys to family's media empire.
But these are not the reasons why you’ll like taking a seat or placing a to-go order at Candy Kitchen.
You’ll like it because it is an authentic, beachy corner cafe that serves satisfying omelettes, sandwiches, slices of pie and scoops of homemade ice cream (made on-site in a back room).
During our last trip we sat in a booth and ordered a triple decker turkey club on toasted white bread along with a cup of hot coffee. It was delicious and did the trick - though we were tempted to order an ice cream sundae piled high in a metal tulip dish.
Next time - and hopefully in Booth Number One!
NOTE: Candy Kitchen is cash only (though there’s an ATM on premise) – and open from 7 am to 4 pm daily. It will be closed from January 23rd to February 13, 2025.
