There’s something special about Friend of a Farmer located near Gramercy Park in New York City. On the second floor, they have a brick fireplace that makes the entire space feel warm and inviting.
It’s the perfect setting to enjoy breakfast – and order anything you can imagine. Waffles, pancakes, omelets – any kind of omelet, really. Sitting there by the fire, eating and soaking in the cozy atmosphere, you can’t help but feel at ease. What more could you ask for?
This place has been around for as long as I can remember. I used to come here often, not just for breakfast but for a quiet dinner as well. It was always a little off the beaten path, with a reasonable wait time (except for weekends when the lines are longer), and the sidewalk dining was a nice touch. I remember enjoying meals like salmon, fresh salads, or even a hearty Shepherd's pie once in a while. Simple but satisfying.
That fireplace on the second floor, though, has always stood out to me. It’s a nice-sized brick fireplace – classic and unassuming. If my memory serves me right, it used to be wood-burning, with a couple of logs sitting in a brass holder, ready to be placed on the fire. Maybe it’s been modernized since then, but the charm remains the same.
Over the years, I’ve brought plenty of friends and family here, especially for breakfast. It’s just one of those places you keep coming back to – a place that’s timeless and comforting, no matter how much changes around it.
