Walk past a ornamental Korean gate, on a windy pale dirt path cut through a mountain, and within 10 minutes time you will get to the base of Soekguram, located in Gyeongju, the country's ancient southeastern capital.
Climb some steps towards an old Korean building and inside is a stone grotto, built in the 8th century. Within the granite temple is an 11-foot Buddha sitting on a 4-foot base.
While a glass partition separates you from the Buddha and its glorious chamber and antechamber, it's more than enough to feel the significance of this UNESCO Heritage site.
And maybe if you donate a nominal fee for an incense stick, and utter a small prayer, you just might see the sparkle of the Buddha's third eye and continue on your journey a little more inspired and enlightened.
