From contributor Alice Lonfat-Chu:
Kyoto is a historic city full of traditional arts and crafts, and a rising arts fair is celebrating the city's heritage while bringing contemporary art to the fore.
Now celebrating its fourth edition, Art Collaboration Kyoto (ACK) is a very special festival in two sections.
The first is a showcase of international artists who have a connection to Kyoto.
The second pairs a Japanese gallery with an international one.
These co-shares are a unique way of presenting art through collaboration: a Japanese gallery and an international partner sharing space.
There are already over 25 synergies planned.
Examples include: Blum (Tokyo) with Foksal Gallery Foundation (Warsaw); Cohju (Kyoto) with Galerie Marguo (Paris); and SCAI The Bathhouse (Tokyo) with Tanya Bonakdar Gallery (New York).
Art Collaboration Kyoto is overseen by program director Yukako Yamashita, who has a strong connection to both the art world (having led contemporary sales for Sotheby's Japan) and Kyoto (where her family has run a tea ceremony gallery for six generations).
