We've been to speakeasies that were only speakeasies in name, perhaps off the beaten track but with signage blatantly displaying their existence. This place was the opposite. We had passed it by several times during the day, and not once noticed the entryway. We would have missed it again and again, had we not been so intent on finding the place that was recommended to us as a jewel of a spot. It wasn't supposed to be a speakeasy, but it was harder to find than one in 1920's America.
Though there is signage outside actually carved in stone, you tend to hesitate, as you have to boldly push through heavy iron gates, not just one, but two sets of them, to gain entry. You hesitate again, as you can hear no sound of evening laughter or clanking of glass through the heavy stone walls. You are greeted by two formidable turquoise blue peacocks in glass cages. But finally you enter the little china shop - as the name would translate to - and a small, bustling, and exquisitely appointed tapas lounge opens up to you. You look up at the dark wood-beamed high ceilings, cut glass chandelier with birds perched on them, and start noticing the sea foam green coloured walls juxtaposed against casual high top tables and stools.
Everything on the menu is exquisite. But be disciplined, like the Spaniards. If you order too much at once, the tiny table won't be able to hold it.
