Designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee may be a well-known name in India, where four of his stores are located, but New Yorkers should be running to his new shop in the West Village now.
We’ve never seen a luxury clothing, accessory and jewelry shop like this.
Now opened for two years, it’s received some press but somehow has been flying gloriously under many radars.
We live in the neighborhood and we missed it.
We’re ashamed to say we thought the store was a restaurant inside the historic Archive Building.
A doorman for the shop corrected us when we asked about the space.
We were invited in and entered a portal like we’ve never seen – an Indian palace dedicated to shopping opulence.
The museum-like space is large and posh, with millions of dollars reportedly invested in the interior design alone - from carpets to chandeliers, artwork to built-ins, pottery to wallpaper.
The Indian-styled clothing is beautiful and couture; the jewelry in its private salon is resplendent and handmade.
We loved the space so much we returned the next day.
No expense is spared. A hallway is a journey in of itself. A restroom, most elegant.
Now we need an event or wedding to make a sizeable purchase. And we're privately wishing for a social club or hotel to follow.
SABYASACHI is simply singular and spectacular.
