The New York art gallery scene is vast - with major galleries located throughout the city.
While there are prime locations in Midtown and Tribeca, walking through Chelsea's ten block gallery district in New York is a relaxed jaunt for any New Yorker or traveler.
The mile-long stretch of hope and dreams, cooled by the Hudson River breezes, can be found mostly between 18th and 28th streets between 10th and 11th avenues in downtown Manhattan.
We recommended weaving through 19th and 22nd streets and then picking back up again on 24th through 26th streets.
Most galleries are open to the public Monday through Saturday, with private appointments needed for a few exclusive dealers.
Some our recommended galleries include ACA (W. 20th Street, where the David Zwirner Books Shop is also located); Hauser & Wirth (W. 22nd), Gagosian (W. 24th Street); and Pace (W. 25th Street).
And if you're looking for a different adventure, climb the stairs to the nearby High Line to point you downtown to the Meatpacking District or uptown to Hudson Yards' eating and shopping complex.
