Hong Kong can become hot and steamy, so the Happy Valley racetrack -- right in the middle of the city -- is closed to protect the horses from mid-July to early September.
But once racing season begins, watch out. You're in for a great ride.
We like going on Wednesday nights. Typically there are about eight races going off from 7:15 to about 11 pm.
You can take a look at the horses in The Parade Ring before each race, giving you enough time to place a bet.
And if you don't want to lay down a wager, there's a variety of food and drink to add to the track's carnival -like spirit.
Betting or not, you're right in lively Happy Valley, which dovetails into the bustle of Causeway Bay and Wan Chai, two other entertaining neighborhoods.
Horses, Happy Valley, Causeway Bar and Wan Chai -- that's a winning superfecta if there ever was one.
