West 55th Street in Midtown Manhattan is not where you would expect to find a hip, cool vibe. And I'm not being snooty, as a former resident of Midtown Manhattan. But we stumbled upon Tanner's Smith by accident, and it's a find.
Styled as a 1920's NY drinking house, the cocktails were artfully creative - much more than the ubiquitous espresso martini or jalapeno margarita - and atmosphere totally prohibition. They even had the large circular booths against the wall.
We weren't there for the food at that hour, but we are hearing their bottomless prohiBITCHIN brunches are amazing, and can't wait to go back for brunch.
As it was, we only needed to stay a bit more longer and we would have bumped into the brunch crew.
