While Brasserie Lipp, Les Deux Magots and Cafe de Flore are part of Paris' legendary Saint-Germain drinking and eating scene, Brasserie Lipp is my friend's favorite standout, particularly for people watching as others enter Les Deux Magots and Cafe de Flore across the street.
All three spots opened in the 1880s; served some intellectual and artistic heavyweights like Camus and Hemingway; and pulled in their fair share of out-of-towners over the years.
But of the three, Brasserie Lipp is the less touristy one of the bunch, known more for its upscale food than drink.
And if you do decide to visit, order their profiteroles. They're said to be tres bon.
