New York City's C.O. Bigelow has been a Sixth Avenue institution since its founding in 1838.

Originally called The Village Apothecary Shop, it holds the title of America’s oldest apothecary --and possibly the country’s longest-running pharmacy.

Today, its shelves are stocked with luxury cosmetics, beauty essentials, and its own line of lotions, salves, and body washes.

Bigelow’s first cold cream was crafted in 1838, the year it opened, and its iconic lemon-scented body cream debuted just 15 years later.

Over the decades, the shop has drawn legendary figures like Thomas Edison, Mark Twain, and Eleanor Roosevelt as customers.

While it feels like a mini-department store, the historic charm of tiled floors, wooden wall built-ins, balcony offices, column supports and original light fixtures transport you to another era.
