Everyone told us about Eslava, the most amazing restaurant in Seville serving exquisite, elevated tapas that combine tradition and modernity. When I say everybody, this includes seasoned jet-setter friends of ours, the owners of our boutique hotel in Vejer de la Frontera, the hip server at the bustling restaurant next door, and the owners of the polo club in Cadiz.
By the time we finally made it there, we had tried several other places in Seville and had very high standards. Eslava did not disappoint, but we do have to note that there are many competitive spots in Seville, and specially in this specific posh neighbourhood.
I will say though Eslava’s duck pate (with a hint of cumin) ranks probably top 3 in the world. And the perfect egg yolk on a tower of mushrooms exemplifies their creativity. Their sardines were long sold out by the time we got there.
We also love their culture - it’s a super hard reservation to get, but they always leave their patio space and bar open for walk-ins to make sure locals are appreciated.
Barrio de San Lorenzo, the area where Eslava is located, is a gorgeous, tree-lined posh residential neighborhood that has a smattering of amazing foodie spots (including El Pantera de San Lorenzo next door, and Abaderia de San Lorenzo around the corner).
BTW, they rent apartments above their restaurant and kitchen. My guess is the owners either inherited or invested in the whole building. The apartments are modern and clean, and did we say this is a great neighbourhood to stay in?
