This was our food day in Milan. And we did two amazing restaurants – as we walked around looking to find my lost hat.
And while I never recovered it, we did find seafood galore at Trattoria del Pescatore.
Trattoria del Pescatore is a place you can only get in through your hotel or if you know somebody – and you have to book well in advance. You can't just call them and say, hey, “Let me in.”
For one thing, Trattoria del Pescatore doesn’t always answer the phone.
We had our hotel make the reservations weeks ahead, but we wanted to change the date when we were in Milan. The hotel kept trying to phone the restaurant, but they gave up and told us to keep the reservation.
We made the right choice and heeded their advice.
We arrived at Trattoria del Pescatore early but they don’t open before their first seating (around 12:30 pm).
We waited with other locals -- all there for the eatery’s delicious bread and seafood.
Once inside, we found bread on our table. It was still hot. And the seafood that followed was out-of-this-world.
We started with fried calamari and prawns. There is no batter on them. They are lightly dusted with corn flour and fried in olive oil. The dish was so fresh, so light, and so amazing.
When we were done with our plate, we wanted more – but we had lots of food coming, including the lobster specialty, a plate of boiled lobster served cold with onions and tomatoes drizzled with olive oil and a little bit of salt.
It was unbelievable.
When we return this spring, we’re going back.
The lobster was amazing; I can still taste the calamari and prawns.
