abcV is an absolutely lovely vegetarian (but not vegan) restaurant. I was unfamiliar with the place until I recently was invited there to celebrate a friend's birthday. Unsurprisingly for a Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant, the place is exquisite. We loved the atmosphere, the varied and interesting light fixtures, and the flowers. The food is exquisite, too--beautiful to behold.
It's also delicious! I was with a party of six, and our server recommended a variety of dishes to share, which made for a very fun eating experience, and enabled us to try a large selection of the menu items. (She also helpfully advised us on how much to order and which dishes we should double so we'd all get a taste.) I recommend the California dates, the charred freekeh and fava bean, the whole roasted cauliflower (it's very large, though--only for sharing or for true cauliflower enthusiasts), the heirloom tomato salad, the mushroom walnut bolognese, and the sweet corn wontons in broth. We managed dessert, too: the chocolate cherry layer cake and the birch bark ice cream float (this one was more like a deconstructionist's take on an ice cream float--quite fabulous nonetheless).
My only complaint about the experience was the noise level--it's loud in there, so loud that it was hard to hear across the table. Otherwise, though, I'd absolutely recommend the place to vegetarians and omnivores alike. Because who doesn't enjoy gorgeous vegetable-forward cuisine in a delightful setting?
