Every town in Spain has a Plaza Mayor, the main square. And they are all beautiful. But we love Plaza Mayor de Almagro perhaps a tiny bit more than others, because it reminds us of other lands dear to us, like Malaysia, Macau, or Old Singapore. With its colonnaded walkways and green and white painted wooden shutters along the upper floors, the square gives off a charming, old colonial vibe.
There are many places to stop in for a cup of tea and a pastry, but we wanted to mark and remember this place - Cafeteria Teo - for the lively morning energy we felt with all the town's men and women gathering for a bit of society (and gossip!) before they started their day.

Just a few doors down is Almagro Theatre, Europe's oldest operating theater, proudly advertising an upcoming Cervantes play when we walked by. Peek in and enjoy the magic!
