Bonny Light Horseman is a mini-supergroup of sorts.
The folk trio is composed of Anais Mitchell (creator of Broadway's Hadestown), Eric D. Johnson (of Fruit Bats fame) and Josh Kaufman (a musician who's collaborated with Bob Weir, The National, The Hold Steady and The War on Drugs).
To us, Bonny Light Horseman are a twangier Peter, a groovier Paul and a smoother Mary. Together they chart new Americana territory while honoring Bob Dylan, The Band and The Grateful Dead.
But that's us, and no matter what we think, the group's 2020 eponymous release earned them praise and a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album.
That effort was followed up by 2022's Rolling Golden Holy, which featured a crowd-pleasing, string-forward tune called "California."
Next up for the trio, a 20-track double album dropping on June 7, 2024.
It's called Keep Me on Your Mind/See You Free -- and after hearing the first single, "I Know You Know," we can't wait.
If this song is any indication of what's to come, Summer 2024 is going to have some sweet sounds around the bonfire. Hope to see you there.
