Burger Joint is kind of an open secret.
It's a hamburger restaurant inside the Thompson Central Park hotel on West 56th Street.
It’s not a bistro or anything fancy, but it’s solid.
Here’s how it works: you walk into the hotel lobby, pass the reception desk, and go right. There’s this staircase with a big red curtain - no signage, nothing obvious.
Walk behind the curtain, and suddenly, you’re in a totally different vibe.
The hotel is a high-end Hyatt property, but then this restaurant has graffiti all over the walls.
The burgers are flame-broiled -- not fried or overly greasy. It’s a good, meaty burger. I’d give it a solid 7 out of 10.
The guy who checked my order was a bit of a jerk, honestly. So the overall experience was also a 7.
But ratings aside what makes Burger Joint special is bringing someone who’s never been there before and watching them say, "What is this?" That's part of the fun.
If you're in the neighborhood, give it a go.
