If you’re in Rome, you need to eat artichokes—and there’s no better place to do it than the Jewish Quarter. Right across from the synagogue, Nonna Betta is where those in the know go for the crispiest, most golden carciofi alla giudia in town. It’s a must.
Didn’t book? No problem. Next door at Il Giardino, the food is just as fantastic, and you get the added bonus of prime outdoor seating for an afternoon of people-watching and lingering over lunch. The crowd is a mix—locals who’ve been coming here forever and some lucky tourists.
Lunch happens at 1 PM, and while the full menu is tempting, you don’t need to order a whole course of pasta. A serving of artichokes and a crisp salad with a glass of wine? More than enough to feel like you’ve done Rome right.
