Found predominantly in Asian countries, such as Hong Kong, Singapore and India, the Ginger Beer Gunner is considered a non-alcoholic reviver for those trying to beat the continental heat.
The Gunner has an infinitesimal amount of alcohol due to a dash of bitters, but it's negligible and essentially qualifies as a mocktail with its focus on ginger beer and lemon juice or lime cordial.
This was a go-to of ours in Hong Kong when the humidity soaked through our shirt and we wanted to ready ourselves for an evening with friends.
Also, as one friend said: "Ginger Beer is a magic aide in time of a hangover. Especially good Ginger Beer: Fever Tree, Reed’s, Bundaberg. Over ice, with the squeeze of half a lemon and a few splashes of bitters is a game changer. If you’re requiring a hair of the dog, a small splash of rum is the ticket, but it’s really not necessary."
So if it's hot out or you're feeling a wee crapulous, grab a Gunner. It's as simple as ready, aim, sip.
