The "BE" in BE Chocolat stands for Benoit from Belgium--a master chocolatier.
He studied at the Ceria Culinary Institute in Brussels, and was Chocolate Chef at the Belgian pavilion in Shanghai World Expo.
These days he can be found in the Greenfield Hill neighborhood of Fairfield Connecticut, at a delightful little shop where his team uses Callebaut Fairtrade Finest Belgian Chocolate to make treats in small batches.
Their work is exquisite--both utterly delicious and beautiful to behold. It is a pleasure to visit their store (and they will provide you a taste or two) to pick out a lovely gift, get some hot chocolate or coffee to go, or indulge yourself with a Belgian waffle. While you wait (this is not fast food, this is decidedly slow food), you can chat with the friendly staff and watch the pieces being made on site.
High quality ingredients make for expensive products, especially when made on a small scale, so the prices are a bit steep. However, there are some quite affordable chocolate bars (which make great little birthday treats, or party favors), and which you can even have personalized.
Their products are available at several local businesses and can be shipped, but if you have the opportunity, go right to the source and pick out something delectable.
