Kalgooksoo - Korean flour noodles in a beef broth. The aristocrats of Andong in the Chosun dynasty enjoyed the noodles in broth as the last course to a full meal after filling their bellies with super delicious meat, fish and vegetables prepared a hundred different ways. To the poor, Kalgooksoo was the main dish in and of itself, and therefore a versatile, beloved dish of all peoples of Korea.
This particular restaurant has perfected the Kalgooksoo, so much so that President Kim Young Sam of Korea had them prepare and serve the dish regularly in the Blue House (the Presidential Residence of Korea). Hence, the nickname, YS Noodles, or, The President's Noodles.
You enjoy the Kalgooksoo in particular with Sohojung's famous kennip - a specially-marinated poached sesame (shiso) leaf side dish. This particular banchan (side dish) is as famous as their noodles.
While they got famous with Kalgooksoo, don't miss out on the Gookbap - rice and chunky beef in a spicy beef broth served in one bowl. Again, a homey dish for for peasants, now a national dish in Korea and not to be missed.
The President had good taste by the way. Also check out Country Table on your way to luxury Gapyoung resort, Ananti Chord.
