If you’re in Berlin and want to be close to upscale shopping and a multitude of food and bar selections, Sir Savigny is your place to stay. This intimate lodge, with 44 rooms, is located in Charlottenburg, a neighborhood that’s probably the most comparable to Midtown East in New York City,
While a little out of the way, the boutique hotel sits on a major thoroughfare and is two minutes from public transportation.
A bit of a drab and unexciting exterior greets you, but then a well-scented – think Mandarin Oriental – hallway leads you to an inner sanctuary with about five different common spaces. These areas are compact, but cosy, and loosely linked to a grassy outdoor courtyard that’s accentuated by Drift Away, a towering mural by street artist DOME.
What sets apart Sir Savigny is the culture. A part of the Sircle Group, the first morning we were greeted by a Spaniard from Galicia – one of our favorite places to visit – then in the evening we met a Turkish woman from Ankara.
These staffers were most welcoming and helpful.
In fact the morning manager didn’t mind switching our small streetside room to Room 304, a larger, more stylish aft-facing chamber with sumptuous artwork by Kathrina Musick.
Consider this warm and friendly hotel as your Goldilocks accommodation -- with everything, including the price, just right.
