With an amazing cast of up-and-coming talent and a romantic view of Italy, The Talented Mr. Ripley is one of my most favorite movies set in Rome.
There’s a new series called Ripley (based on the book and movie) and the new Ripley is obsessed with Caravaggio and art.
Safe to say it’s the only thing I have in common with the character.
I took an art class in college and that’s the first time I learned about Caravaggio and his command of light and contrast. I just loved his art and I remember saying that I want to go to Italy one day and see his works throughout the country.
I started doing this in Rome and tried to see as many of Caravaggio’s works as I could, visiting many chapels and museums throughout the city.
If you’d like to do the same, a good place to start is the Church of San Luigi Dei Francesi, where you can see three of Caravaggio’s paintings (for free).
