Berlin’s Berghain is the Checkpoint Charlie of clubland.
If you’re let in here, you’ve been given a club kid seal of approval and free to roam about the club for days on end.
But the edgy destination, known for high-level partying, is legendary for not admitting people.
Years ago, we stood for a bit at the end of a line that looked half a kilometer long – and knew we wouldn’t get in (we were in transit and carrying luggage), but we wanted to check out the energy of the crowd and watch the sunrise after a magical night on the town. We never made it to the bouncers, the line was moving too slow, and that was fine with us.
We didn’t feel the need to get rejected.
Nevertheless, to participate alone is great experience – and we’ve come to understand there is a need for the line and the dismissive greeters on the other end of it.
The Berghain is curating an experience and its bouncers are there to ensure that you can handle the experience, not make trouble, and add to the thrill and the madness of the event.
There’s a great video (see below) about how to prepare yourselves for the doormen at the club.
It contains some real inside information and could help with your journey.
We hope you enjoy it and good luck!
