Kyoto's Umezono Sabo is a specialty sweets shop that's been open since 1927. They have several shops in Kyoto, but the main location below is a cafe with a gallery attached to it.
And what's changed in the last almost 100 years? Looking forward to their centennial, the second generation owner who took over from her father opened an online shop to sell their desserts. You can not only shop by price, but also shop by shelf life.
Enjoy pudding, cookies and other local delights. And during the summer season, our favourite shaved ice dessert.
Though dessert may not quite be the right term. As in most places in Asia, sweets are a snack rather than a last course to a meal.
