Shuttered for five years, Le Veau d’Or is now alive again thanks to the team behind Frenchette and Le Rock, Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson (you may still think of them as Balthazar, like me).
The legendary Upper East Side bistro - which first opened in 1937 and even served at the 1939 World’s Fair – attracted luminaries and society swans seeking French fare and a gracious atmosphere of wood panels, red seats and white table cloths.
Now you can carry are on the tradition while summoning the spirits of James Beard, Truman Capote, Oleg Cassini, Helen Frankenthaler, Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich, Jackie O, Lee Radziwill and Orson Welles.
But please know, reservations are recommended at this 50-seater, which, for now, offers a three-course prix fixe dinner for $125.
