Our young, trendy and awesome hotel staff helped us make a reservation at Gino Yata, in the entertainment district of Kyoto called Gion. Slightly touristy but deeply local at the same time, Gion is a district where you can still spot a Japanese kabuki.
We had a lovely time at this traditional kaiseki (multi-course) restaurant where they serve scrumptious little morsels of deliciousness over numerous courses. We didn't think it would be possible to actually get full with the tiny little bites, but we reached that state in the end with the most delicious piece of melt-in-your-mouth wagyu beef, aided by a bit of sake and Japanese beer along the way.
This place is worth remembering for its amazing quality of food, drinks and service, and it didn't break the bank either. I will say though there seemed to be many intriguing spots in the area, and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. So perhaps this may be a good spot to save on your map and start a walkabout.
