Part of the Jockey Club, and located on a private island off of Sai Kung in the New Territories, Kau Sai Chau is Hong Kong's only public golf course. And it's all on the water.
Kau Sai Chau while public does have a strict registration process - so best to book through a local friend (or try to navigate the online system yourself) and have a current handicap card on hand. Also, you'll need a Hong Kong driver's license to rent a golf cart.
But if you can get past the protocols, it's really a beautiful place with many holes on the water to swing the clubs. You're surrounded by natural beauty, the holes are challenging, and there are three courses to choose from.
And no matter how you played that day, there's a good restaurant on site, as well as a relaxing ferry to take you to and fro the island.
Kau Sai Chau is a delightful way to spend the morning or afternoon in Hong Kong. We haven't been in a while, and miss it terribly.
