Okay, so we butchered a Halston quote on the front of the card.
What the late designer actually said is that "style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn."
We are obsessed with Halston and adore everything about 70's fashion - which pretty much is all Halston.
If you can get a copy of the 1999 book Halston - An American Original by Elaine Gross & Fred Rottman, you will be shocked just sifting through the photos to see how the designer's fingerprints are all over American women's fashion, from casual to ball gowns, all the way up to today. And Netflix's miniseries on Halston with Ewan McGregor is not bad. We do recommend you check it out.
But the below is our Halston Stylebook - where he traveled, what he wore and where he stayed.
And they are all still the best.
PLACES
* As a New Yorker he owned a townhouse on East 63rd Street (now reportedly owned by Tom Ford); worked at Olympic Towers; and attended many social engagements including those at the Waldorf-Astoria; the Four Seasons Hotel; the Ziegfeld Theatre; the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center (now the David H. Koch Theater); and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
* Frequented nightclubs such as Hurrah and Studio 54 in New York and Le Palace in Paris.
* Rented a cottage in Montauk, New York, from Andy Warhol.
* Traveled to China (Beijing, Shanghai, and Suzhou), Los Angeles, Paris, and Tokyo (where he infamously arrived with a cart full of Louis Vuitton luggage).
STYLE
* As the milliner for Bergdorf Goodman in the late 50s and early 60s, designed Jackie O's pillbox hat.
* Signature designs included the caftan; the ultrasuede shirt dress and hats; and the perfume in curvy Elsa Peretti-designed bottles, just to name a few.
* Personal style included a fondness for tuxedos; white suits with black turtlenecks; scarves, and aviator sunglasses.
* Owned a Rolls Royce; smoked True cigarettes; wrote with Flair pens; liked orchids, smooth jazz, Rigaud candles; enjoyed steak and potatoes with caviar or lamb stew at home and Chinese food at the now-shuttered celebrity hang Pearl's (once located at 149 West 48th Street).
* BTW, Halston's designs are now back at Bergdorf's, where they belong.
