Among all the bustle of New York City stands an old white wooden farmhouse house on 121 Charles Street in Manhattan’s West Village.
The building, thought to be constructed in the late 18th or early 19th century, was once the writing studio of Margaret Wise Brown, who rented the space while it was on 1335 York Avenue on the Upper East Side.
From 1946 to her death in 1952, Brown wrote many children’s books there, including her most famous of all, Goodnight Moon.
After Brown’s passing, new owners came in and saved the home from demolition in 1967, trucking it down to its current location.
While a private residence, you won’t be able to glimpse the interior, but an airy iron gate invites you to snap some photos, see the cutest little lawn in the city and say, “Goodnight, little house.” Hopefully, there’s no mouse.
