The problem with places like Hotel Saint Vincent is that it is so rich and glam and gorgeous that you never want to leave the property. And that is a shame when you are in a place like New Orleans, which in and of itself, is rich and glam and gorgeous.
Nonetheless, we were completely enamoured with this property and its entire offering. The unique and interesting collection at the boutique called By George, on the main floor across the lobby. The old school pool with chaise lounges abundant (the elegant, wide-striped upholstered ones we love) and attentive poolside service. Rooms that look like they are leaping out of a Wes Anderson movie. And the inspired decor of the restaurants, including a hotel guest-only grand salon bar.
The property is also a membership club, offering a limited number of memberships with the same perks hotel guests would enjoy.
The hotel, which opened in 2021, was originally an orphanage, founded by Mary Haughery, herself an orphan from Ireland who emigrated to the U.S. and built a successful bakery business. With this money she established the Infant Asylum, a refuge for young children who lost parents due to the Civil War or Yellow Fever.
We love that the building -- built in the 1860s -- still bears the original stone engraving with the heading, Infant Asylum.
The location BTW is just amazing. If you do decide to venture off property, you can step out and stroll along Magazine Street and immediately start enjoying the shops and cafes, and return poolside whenever your heart desires.
