You may have already read our intro to London. Here are some other insider tips to help you navigate the city.
– Consider grabbing a window seat on your flight to London. This could set you up for a bird's-eye view of the city upon approach.
– Stroll around the center of the city and familiarise yourself with the London Underground subway system. Many of the central tube stops are within walking distance of each other.
– Take the number 8 or 38 bus for a double-decker tour through central London.
– Order an Uber, hire a Bolt or hail a black cab for short distances, but not to-and-from the airport. Heathrow to London Paddington is 15 minutes on the Heathrow Express train. The Connect service is cheaper and takes around 30 minutes.
– Get the BBC’s hour-by-hour weather forecast app.
– Tip according to quality of service. In restaurants a 13% service charge is often already added.
– Visit the city's free museums (https://www.visitlondon.com/things-to-do/sightseeing/london-attraction/museum/free-museums-in-london).
– AVOID: Rush hour on the tube, rush hour in a car. Piccadilly Circus. Hot dogs from street vendors.
