Rocky cliffs, dramatic scenery, high winds, violent waves, a paradise for fishermen, a daredevil spot for swimmers...as close as you can get to the equator in any of the 50 states--it's known as Ka Lae in Hawaiian, or South Point in English. You can reach it from State Route 11 (Hawaii Belt Road) on the Big Island, turning off on South Point Road and passing a number of wind turbines before you arrive.
Take only photographs and leave only footprints. Don't expect much in the way of amenities. Do expect to find yourself in the presence of beauty.
