After Cabourg, we were obsessed with calvados, Normandy's apple brandy. It was served to us poured over lemon sorbet as a palate cleanser, and we couldn't get it out of our minds.
So when we were exploring the back alleys of the fisherman town Honfleur, we were delighted to find many specialised calvados stores, with professional and knowledgeable attendants to help us understand the different kinds of calvados. Basically, the longer it ages, the smoother, and of course the more expensive, it becomes.
We now love calvados. And the simple recipe to pour calvados over lemon sorbet.
Explore Rue Haute, go to Rue de l'Homme de Bois for Honfleur's famous crepes that will be made to order while you wait (vs pre-made and stacked, as you see on the waterfront), and calvados is sold everywhere but Rue de la ville seems to be a bit more specialized.
