From contributor Elena Alonso:
Like any metropolis morphing into an international powerhouse, Miami has gone through its growing pains. But through it all, the Florida city has become one of the true global centers of contemporary art. From galleries to art fairs to big-time collectors, Miami is not only the Gateway to America, but it’s also the gateway to endless color and boundless inspiration.
If contemporary art is of interest, here are some Miami spots not to be missed:
Perez Art Museum - The MoMA of Miami.
Rubell Museum - Spectacular and intimate, a mini-MoMA.
The Margulies Collection at the WAREhOUSE - 50,000 square-feet of private art.
Wynwood Walls - Outdoor murals with rotating artists.
El Espacio 23 - A collection belonging to Jorge Perez, founder of the Perez Art Musuem.
Marquez Art Projects - Works from local and international emerging artists.
Cernudo Arte - A high-end Coral Gables' gallery, with a refreshing personal touch, focusing on Cuban art.
And, lest we forget, Miami Art Week, including Art Basel and Design Miami. That whole week is tremendous… always the first week of December, ever-insane and oh so fun.
