I'd heard good things about OKO for years and I don't know why it took me so long to visit. I finally remedied that omission last night and had a rather delicious meal.
Located in the historic Vigilant Hose Company Firehouse in downtown Westport, and as loud as an firehouse during an alarm (the brick is lovely to look at but some sound proofing would really help), the food is great.
Our waiter was helpful, apologetic that we waited a bit for our drinks (it was a busy evening), and gave us some good recommendations.
The five-piece chef's selection was phenomenal (and a rather good deal on an otherwise expensive menu) and we also enjoyed the edamame with garlic-soy butter, a tuna tartare dish (a new item, as our waiter pointed out), a Japanese eggplant appetizer, and the Waygu beef hanger steak.
Despite the noise level, it was a relaxing experience. The service was attentive, every dish we tried was delicious, and as the evening set in and the crowd thinned, the atmosphere improved. I wish they were open for lunch---it would be an amazing place for a calm mid-day meal. As it is, though, it's perfect for a date night or a girls' night out. (Or you can bring kids with you--they have some children's bento boxes available.)
