This is one of our most favourite neighbourhood spots, and if you don't live in the West Village, a place worth traveling across town to visit.
I always get the branzino here, and absolutely adore the Piedmont-style steak tartar with a hint of citrus - one of my top 3 steak tartars in NYC - but most recently tried something new on the menu, the crispy crab tart, which was amazing and must not be missed.
Say hello to the Maitre d' TJ - who invented the legendary drink Gold Rush at Milk and Honey back in the day. Carlina has an extensive wine list but make sure to start your meal with a spritz. TJ will help you select a vermouth imported from Turin. When I bring new friends here I get them to try something as far as possible from the ubiquitous aperol spritz.
They have two locations now, the original in the West Village on Hudson Street, and another in Tribeca.
