Tipatina's, the iconic 800-cap music club (now owned by brass band Galactic) is a must.
The club is a lesson in chemistry -- a rush of opposites and interconnected parts that crash into each other to produce an electric charge of an evening.
The club is homey, yet polished; welcoming, but with attitude.
An evening show can be followed by one that strays into the wee hours.
A crowded main stage is offset by a wrap-around balcony upstairs.
The acts can range from a local singer to a band with international appeal, such as The Killers who used Tipitina's for a warm-up before their 2024 Jazz Fest performance.
Even the club's banana logo wades into yin-yang waters. Is it innocent (a healthy reference to a juice bar once housed there) or perverse? Your call.
And while we could have snagged a free yellow banana (which the house hands out as a snack), we stepped outside for a taco at a nearby food truck.
Don't worry, Tipitina's let us back in within hassle.
After all, bananas and tacos have nothing and everything (wink wink) to do with each other.
This duality and unity is the core of Tipitina's.
Boy, oh boy, you're in for night.
