Less than an hour of Prague sits the former royal city of Pilsen (or Plzen).
I'd recommend it as a day trip or an overnight - especially if you like neo-Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture as well as Pilsner Urquell beer (where the brewery was founded).
If you find yourself in the city, here are a few suggestions.
FOR ACCOMMODATIONS
The three-star Hotel Slovan Plzen; an original experience in a 19th-century Art Nouveau hotel.

FOR DINING
Enjoy the trout at Na Parkanu; in a historical setting with outdoor seating and vegetarian options.

A tour of the 180-year-old Pilsner Urquell Brewery; where they produce nearly 3 million bottles per day.
