McSorley’s has been around since 1854 - though not open to women until 1970.
It’s a legendary East Village bar memorialized in the writings of e.e. cummings, the old furnace holding court and the sawdust that still soaks up the beer on its well-trodden floors.
Their buy one beer - get two policy is also still in effect.
The overall charm and drinking history (including being visited by the likes of Abraham Lincoln, John Lennon and Woody Guthrie) make McSorley’s – which touts itself as America’s oldest Irish bar – as popular as ever.
