We love the Normandy region of France. The oldest and most popular towns are Deauville-sur-la-mer and Trouville. I think of them as twin cities with a luxe offering of boats, horses, and alcohol. Indeed it is complete with a harbor, racecourse, marina, casino, sumptuous hotels, and a fish market. And is home to the apple brandy, Calvados, named after the region.
You may think of it as the Hamptons. Home to French high society's seaside houses just two hours outside Paris, it is often referred to as the Parisian Riviera. You may have also heard the coast called Cote Fleurie, the flowery coast, actually not only referring to the natural horticulture of the coastal hills but the planted gardens of the belle epoque seafront mansions.
Therefore, it is not to tear you away from the seaside offerings, but we thought we might let you in on a secret hidden gem, just a 10 minute drive inland from Deauville.
Nestled in a 7ha park, the rooms and suites are scattered across the grounds of an old estate, in a lovely, bucolic, French Normandy countryside setting. Breakfast is sumptuous, with pots of coffee, fresh croissants and pastries, farm eggs, yogurts, fresh fruit (especially succulent were the apricots in season), smoked salmon, charcuterie and the never-to-forget Normandy cheese platter.
There is a spa, at which I of course got an amazing massage, and the most friendly concierge who found us several options to go riding in the Normandy countryside. We just did not have time for the pool, but it seemed lovely.
Now I share this secret with you.
