The best yoga in New York City is at Souk.
Souk means market in most Middle Eastern languages, and founders Rima and Monica created this beautiful space in Chelsea to be a true marketplace where yogis of all different disciplines can come together and practice yoga.
It’s a non-divisive space when it comes to yoga, even though the founders are disciples of Jivamukti Yoga you have teachers from Iyengar, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, the Shala, as well as amazing sound meditation, breathwork and philosophy classes.
The practice here is a tremendous workout for both your mind and body, but don’t expect to be in and out in 45 minutes.
This is where you go to focus your mind before starting to move and end your practice with an extended moment of tranquility.
I love it for the fact that most sessions are 75 minutes or even 90 minutes, you actually walk out with all the positivity and lightness that yoga is supposed to bring to you.
The greatest challenge I would say is keeping that lightness for the rest of your day and until your next practice.
My favourite teacher who travels the world teaches here, but you need to follow her intensely like me to know when she is in town :-) But no need to fret, as she has a rigorous and disciplined biweekly online class as well.
