To us, the New York City High Line is one of the great urban revitalization projects of the world.
Once a stretch of abandoned elevated train tracks from 34th Street (Hudson Yards) down to Gansevoort Street (Meatpacking District), the High Line is now a walkway, open to the public (but closed to pets).
The High Line is filled with public art and garden zones, and surrounded by a variety of cityscapes.
We like entering the High Line at Gansevoort Street (right by the Whitney Museum) and strolling to 26th Street, but you might want to walk the entire mile-and-a-half stretch.
Just one note: it can get crowded and there are some tourists that don't walk as fast as you. But as long as your patient and curious about the city, this is one site not to miss.
