The River bar is owned by fashion designer Emily Bode and her interior designer husband Aaron Aujla, of Green River Projects.
The interior by Green River Projects is small and cinematic.
Inside this Chinatown haunt you will find log corner posts, wood plank floors; a small decorative awning with fringe over the bar; worn clip shades on wall-mounted lights (to darken the room); tealights on the table; saloon doors; and Chinese chairs made of branches.
The vibe: a little western, a little Asian - very New York.
It has a divey, throwback air, but with model appeal.
It's a place where you can order a bottle of expensive champagne or a vodka soda or gin and tonic for $16.
The menu is cute, providing the name a car service, promoting a two-pack of Advil for five dollars, and advertising an array of nibbles, including charcuterie and sandwiches.
If you're looking for a new scene and ready to stay current while bending elbows to "Venus" by Bananarama, "Major Tom (Coming Home)" by Peter Schilling, and "Sunglasses at Night" by Corey Hart, it's time to flow with this River.
NOTE: Next door to The River is Dr Clark, which was also designed by Green River Projects.
