Many years ago I was tipped off by an expat living in Tokyo to a district called Daikanyama. Since then I always come to this area and walk into every shop up and down the street. You have everything from Japanese designers, concept stores, vintage shops to home decor, I find it to be real authentic shopping. No mass brands or chain boutiques - that means no Gucci, Prada or H&M or Zara - and very few tourists or people that didn't speak Japanese.
While I never had a specific place in mind, as the sun set and the shops closed their doors, all the restaurants and wine bars seem to turn on their lights. I've never had a bad meal or an experience, just walking around, peaking in, and letting my nose guide my way.
You can take a subway or a taxi to the Daikanyama metro station and start your journey there.
I can't wait for my next visit back.
